Is that Hot Sauce in your pocket?

Happy New Year!

We have been really lucky to have a great hot sauce fan that’s a registered dietitian too. Ashley Koff RD (author of Mom Energy) has been loving our hot sauces for a few years now. We’ve worked with her on some of her AshleyKoffApproved Craft Services Makeovers and she’s even taken the sauce on Access Hollywood Live before.

During the holidays Ashley was back on Access Hollywood Live and talking about losing weight the easy way. This time when our Chipotle Garlic Sauce was mentioned, Kit started saying how she puts it on everything and Billy quickly grabbed it and said that this time it was his and slipped it in his pocket.

Everyone is looking for little tips to help get healthier and maybe lose a few pounds in the new year. Ashley has some great tips that are simple and make great sense.

Popcornface gives us a review

PopcornFace.com recently reviewed our Fiery-Sweet Popcorn snacks.

These popcorn flavors were really fun to taste one after the other. The chiles used in each flavor also have a different taste and heat level which I enjoyed.

Several years ago, Registered Dietitian Ashley Koff discovered our gourmet hot sauces in a small deli in Venice, CA (we all miss Stroh’s Gourmet Deli) and has been a customer ever since.

Ashley has a program where she does a makeover of craft services on Hollywood television and movie sets, helping them have healthier foods, which we can relate to. She also has a new book out, Mom Energy “for moms to tap into their own natural and renewable sources of energy.”

Recently Ashley was on Access Hollywood Live showing Billy Bush & Kit Hoover energy foods and our Chipotle Garlic Sauce actually got called out!

We were on The Doctors… sorta

It’s taken a while, but we finally were able to grab the clip of video from the episode of The Doctors, Truth or Dare where they investigate the health benefits of spicy foods and capsaicin.

We were on the show with Dave DeWitt, the Pope of Peppers… well, we were sorta on with him. Dave is on the phone with them and we were displayed on their table of peppers and spicy stuff.

Craft Services – Bar Karma

About 5 years ago, Registered Dietitian Ashley Koff found our products and loved their taste and ingredients/nutrition information. Since then we have given Ashley and her team samples to share with their clients. Ashley and team also do something called AKA Craft Services Makeover, where they work with Craft Services (on-set food services for film, television, or video production) helping them provide healthier choices when feeding the cast & crew.

One recent project was with a CurrentTV production called Bar Karma. We provided several of our gourmet hot sauces to their Craft Services during the production of the show.

We received a very nice Thank You note from the Bar Karma crew and we wanted to share part of it here…

We here at the Bar Karma set, along with the entire Five Alts Productions staff, would like to extend a big thanks to you guys over at All Spice. Being a part of and, more importantly, taking care of a film cast or crew can be a pretty difficult task. With myriad different allergies, dietary restrictions, and pallets it can become increasingly stressful to properly provide for everyone. You name it and we’ve got it: vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians, organic-obsessives, and crazy tree-hugging recyclers. So it is for this very reason, in addition to the fact that our taste buds are shouting a big “thanks!” too…

It’s always great to hear that our products are well liked and this is especially nice to hear, coming from the production crew of a show. We at All Spice Cafe have a background in the film/video production industry and know how the long, long hours can be and that the Craft can make or break a long day or project. We’re glad that the diverse crew was satisfied.

Big Thanks to the whole AKA Makeover team for supporting our products and helping show people that healthier choices don’t have to be bland.

We have a Page on facebook – when we started it, it was called a Fan Page.

They have changed, now just calling them Pages and now you Like the Page, instead of becoming a Fan.

We still call it Becoming a Fan, mostly because that’s what we were used to, but we also like the sound of it.

One of the interesting media contacts we made at Artisanal LA was Vanesse Crocini who is a Freelance Correspondent- Reporter at Greenme.it, an online green magazine in Italy.

She spoke to both JD & John early in the morning and then later she came back through the show with her videographer and got an interview with JD.

Scott Roberts, of scottrobertsweb.com, recently did an in-depth review of our Jolokia Ghost Pepper Sauce. Scott is well known in the ChileHead & BBQ community for giving thorough and no-holds-barred reviews. He tells it like it is.

Scott does another of his straight-up, honest, and in-depth reviews, where he covers Aroma, Appearance, Texture, Taste, Heat, and Label.

Here is an excerpt from his review:

Taste Straight Up:
4 out of 5. After the initial tangy vinegar jab, a “wall of peppers” rushed at me and knocked me down. I got the base flavor (and quick, medium-level heat) of the cayenne in unison with the smooth character provided by the canola oil. Then a blistering assault from the habaneros and smoked bhut jolokias jumped out and scorched my tongue. It was followed up straight away by an additional offering of twang and pungency along with a rich (and almost sweet) flavor.

The first sentence above has to be one of the best quotes we have ever heard. A “wall of peppers” rushed at me and knocked me down. What a great visual!

Venice Entrepreneur – Spotlight on All Spice Cafe and JD Cowles

Recently Carly and Katie from Venice Entrepreneur came by Surfas in Culver City when we were doing a grilling and BBQ demo on the front patio, to interview us and get a taste of our fiery sauces.

Matthew Burgess started Venice Entrepreneur (VeniceEntrepreneur.com) to give something back to the community. “My hope is that I’ll have some time to write about the entrepreneurs of Venice, CA and highlight their good work.”

They wrote a really nice article about All Spice Cafe and included some great videos too!

Not exactly your typical love story, but that is just how JD Cowles’ romance with hot sauce began. While living in New York, those delectable wings became an integral part of his existence, and he began creating his own spicy masterpieces to get his fix no matter where life took him. As people became hip to his swingin’ wings and demanded the sauce recipe, he realized he might be onto something big.
